Isn’t that fun? The bottom layer of the cake is 12 individual cake slice boxes. I cut them out with Sure Cuts a lot software and my electronic die cut Each box cuts in seconds, then you just need to score, fold and glue. The boxes open on the end so they can be opened without destroying them, great for make ahead favors!

Here is a quick party decorating tip: Use pretty wrapping paper (the black and white damask print is from the dollar spot at Target) as a table runner! It adds a lot of style and cost’s next to nothing!

The kit comes with cupcake wrappers and fancy labels too, I love coordinated party decorations!

So, I was trying to think of a way to make a cute cake stand and it hit me:

I simply covered a tin can with pretty paper and placed a shallow round casserole dish on it! It is so easy and you can make as many as you need for a party then everything can be put back afterward (no awkward cake stands to find a home for) also it is nice because party food looks so much nicer displayed at different heights and levels. You could even dress up the bottom of the can with crepe paper fringe or a ribbon ruffell.

MG: Where do you find inspiration?

Mujka Chic: Inspiration is everywhere. This time of year, the focus is on snow, Christmas, red , green gold, and silver colors. I design these in mind. Other than that, my designs usually contain a lot of hand drawing. I check out old books, Victorian Era clothing, architecture and images to get inspiration.

MG: What is your favorite personal design at MyGrafico?

Mujka Chic: My all time favorite is my ZEBRA DÉCOR SET.  I love the animal print themes on everyday life objects. It is chic and became one of my best sellers.
MG: What has been your favorite use of one of your designs that you have seen from someone who purchased your designs?

Mujka Chic: Mostly all. I love seeing my patterns printed on textile and used on furniture or clothing. It really excites me to see my designs on a big wall mural or sign on a building. I’ve had many designs used these ways and I absolutely love seeing these.
MG: What are your future plans? Anything you’re working on right now?

Mujka Chic: For now MyGrafico and Mujka sites are taking up all of my time. I do freelancing as well, so I have to Juggle 3 jobs everyday. Judy and I have a new Mygrafico Party Blog that we just launched. It is a great addition to MyGrafico. My personal plans for the future are probably to open up a small exclusive wedding invitation boutique and bring the work in to face to face level after working online so many years.
MG: Can you share some advice for designers out there on how to be successful as an artist?

Mujka Chic: Of course. Do not be afraid of trying new things, take risks. Listen to people who have been in the industry long time. Experience is the key to success, so it is important to maintain a level of confidence, give good customer service and just be on top of your game. That’s what I always advise emerging artists.  I also want to thank my partner Judy, all MG designers and customers who believed in this from beginning and made us very successful. As owner of MyGrafico, I am proud to run it as well as being a designer here.

We had the pleasure of interviewing  Burcu (aka Mujka) here at MyGrafico. Not only is Burcu a talented designer, but she is also a creative genius who co-owns MyGrafico with the awesomely talented Judy Sanqunetti.

MyGrafico: What aspect of designing/illustrating do you enjoy the most?

MUJKA DESIGN INC.: I like to consider myself as a commercial illustraor, because I do not design for the sake of art.  So, my style has become very gypsy-like.  I have tried to embrace many techniques and styles over the years that give more depth to my work.  I love researching more than creating.  When a customer tells me, “Wow, that is fabulous” I enjoy that the most.  This gives me a feeling of accomplishment. .

MyGrafico: Where do you find inspirations for your designs?

MUJKA DESIGN INC.: Usually in pages of vintage books, racks at local flea markets, Internet, other designer’s blogs or portfolios.  Sometimes the customer influences a lot and they have some wonderful, crazy ideas that can make the inspiration come easily.  Apart from that, my visual memory is very good.  I never forget a file or a picture I have seen, so this helps when I need to design something that is not really my style.

MyGrafico: As a designer and illustrator, you must get to see samples of how your designs are used.  Can you tell us about any of your favorites, and also if any really surprised you?

MUJKA DESIGN INC.: I have seen my art on buildings, on plates, even on television commercials, but my favorite is definitely wedding invitations printed by Letterpress style.  It is so delicate and so beautiful, that my art becomes an ingredient on the paper, merged with cotton and ink; so perfect. The picture shown here is one showcasing my designs as used by a client.

MyGrafico: At MyGrafico, you have several beautiful sets for sale.  Do you have a favorite, and why?

MUJKA DESIGN INC.: My favorite, is probably one of my damask patter sets, Seamless Damask Set shown here.  I find damasks quite beautiful and timeless.  I sell a lot of them.  Apart from that, I love my templates.  DIY (Do it Yourself) wedding and baby announcements have become the new trend.  My templates are great for those who want to make their own.

MyGrafico: What’s next for you?

MUJKA DESIGN INC.: I’m about to move to British Colombia, Victoria and looking forward to starting a small local business about cards, paper and embellishments. Exploring the possibility of becoming an invitation designer and printer to locals.
